Sunday Night

We awoke this morning to overcast skies and high winds (40 mph.).  It was bad enough for me to take the flag down to avoid damage.  By 10 AM the wind had died down and the skies were blue and the temp reached 83 today.

We went to church at Bullhead City Church of Christ.  It is a small congregation much like our congregation at home. The preacher's name is Bill Keller.  He is 81 years old and was very good.

After worship we went to Tim & Tracy's apt. to decide how to spend our day.  It was decided that Tim an I would go to the free classic car museum in the Riverside Casino.

It was very interesting and included some car brands that I hadn't heard of.  Lela and Tracy had some shopping that they wanted to finish.  That is how the day went.  We met up in the casino's bowling alley, killed a little time looking around, watched some gamblers and then went back to the apt. to watch Lucy and Desi in The Long, Long Trailer.  Popcorn and desert ensued, Tracy left for work about 6:45 PM and we came home with Little Caesar.

Tim and Tracy have been such wonderful hosts and tour guides, that we cannot thank them enough.  Great couple, great friends.

Yesterday, Saturday, was a full day.  We drove north a little way to Lake Mojave on the Colorado River.  It is formed behind Davis Dam.

There is a lot of history here.  Bull Head City was actually a result of the Davis Camp, which was where the workers lived while building the dam.  It is 68 miles below Hoover dam.  There is too much to see in this area in the short time we have.

When we left there we went into the Lake Meade area but didn't travel all the way to the dam.

Finger Rock

We viewed Davis dam from above, and then went into Laughlin, NV.

There is a park across the river and we walked the trail (paved).  It was about 5 miles round trip.  The trail leads to another park below the dam.  It was fun to see it from both views.

When we returned from our hike, we went to an outdoor area of the Colorado Belle Casino called The Loading Dock for Hors de oeuvres and beverages.

There was live entertainment and we enjoyed ourselves very much.
afterwards, Lela and Tracy bought some fish food to feed the Coy Fish in the surrounding moat.

We returned to the apt. where Lela and I provided supper.  Tim grilled the steaks and we all ate too much, but the company was great.

Saturday AM

We are waking this morning to a forecast of 84 degrees and sunny.  Lela is progressing through another sinus infection taking her regular medication along with a Mexican antibiotic we procured while in Texas.  Sickness has not stopped her from having fun while visiting in Bullhead City.

Yesterday, Friday, Tracy and Tim took us to Oatman, AZ.

Go to that site and read about the history of the town, it is pretty interesting.  Hillard had made a notation in his old guide book mentioned in a previous post.

Oatman is an old gold mining town from the early 1900's.  It is nestled in the mountains along the Mother Road, US 66.

What is really unique about the town is that the burros roam loose throughout the town.

Tourists buy feed for them and they show up every morning from out in the mountains to be fed.

The burros are descendants of the burros that were used during the mining days and turned loose when the mines failed.

We returned to go across the Colorado River into Laughlin, NV for dinner at the Pioneer Casino.
The restaurant was called the Bumbleberry Flats Restaurant.

Thursday we looked around town, made a Wal-Mart stop and a Sam's run.  We returned to the Silver Star, did a little maintenance and cleaning, and got some couch time.

Thursday AM

BREAKING NEWS... Gloria has secured a position with Mercy Hospital in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.  It is the job she wanted from day one in her quest to be a nurse.

Here is the view we have this morning from our back window.  You can see the casinos in the background in Laughlin, NV.  That is the Colorado river, which divides AZ and NV.  It is quite a view with the mountains completely surrounding us.

Our new spot

Yesterday, Wednesday, we traveled from Casa Grande to Bullhead City, about 300 miles.  It was pretty much a white knuckle drive as there were high wind warnings all throughout AZ.  The mountain roads were very good and much of the trip (hway 93) was on dual highway, but the wind was a factor.  The last leg of the drive was coming down the mountain from an altitude of over 4500 feet to 500 feet in the Colorado River valley.  The grade is about 6% for 12 miles.  The truck downshifted to 3rd gear and stayed there for the whole 12 miles.  The wind and the grade made for an "exciting" last leg of the journey.  Lela took a few pics while traveling through the mountains.

When we arrived, Tim and Tracy greeted us before we could even get The Silver Star set up.  We visited here and then went to their apt. where Tracy had prepared a delicious lasagna for us.  We visited for a couple hours and then returned to the park.

Tuesday, we finished closing up The Silver Star for the next leg of our trip.  Paul got the keys to their new home and we loaded up some boxes and headed to Queen Creek. Little Caesar was on the menu, and Lela baked an angel food cake to go with some fresh strawberries.

Tuesday afternoon we were treated to a desert dust storm.  they said it wasn't a full blown Habub, but it was enough to close highways for no visibility.  Paul and Christy were caught in it, and had to pull off the road.

It didn't really affect us at the old house or at the RV park, but there was a lot of dust everywhere.
