Saturday Afternoon

Today is a day of transition.  The temperature is moderating. A high of 60 is expected.  Teddy and Becky are getting ready to leave early tomorrow and head home.  We will really miss them as we have grown very close to them.  We anticipate returning to Fat Daddy's this afternoon for one more BBQ meal with them.

Here are a few pictures of our setup after I built the sun/wind screen.

Last Tuesday I went back to Monte Christo Golf Club.  The weather was awful (50 degrees with a 20 MPH sustained wind).  I wore a stocking cap to try to stay warm.  On the second tee a man and his wife were walking by and asked us "Did someone make ya'all come out and play golf today?"  I posted the same 86 I had the previous week.  I am hoping that the weather will cooperate soon.

Lela spent the day preparing for Teddy and Becky to come for dinner.
I grilled some steaks on the Smoky Joe, and Lela made the "fixins" and Becky brought salad.  Lela also made a caramel apple cobbler, which was served hot with vanilla ice cream, yummy.

Wednesday was another lousy weather day.  We stayed home most of the day.  We walked for exercise, but not as long as normal.
We don't know what these are but they aren't coconuts.

In the evening there was a musical show in the clubhouse.  Dave and Daphne were very entertaining.
Dave was the lead guitarist for Barbara Mandrell for several years.  He really put on a show with his music.

They invited all the veterans to come onstage.

You can check them out here.  http://www.daveanddaphne.com/
There are several acts like theirs that try out new stuff on the Winter Texans and then return to Branson and Nashville etc. in the summer.

Thursday, my regular golf was cancelled due to temperatures which didn't get out of the 30's, and high winds.  The wind chill in the valley was in the middle to low 20's.  We hooked up with some others from the park (8 of us) and returned to Hacienda restaurant in Elsa, TX  for more of those great tacos.

Ted drove us down to the border crossing so we could get a look at it.

Then we stopped on the way back to buy some things at a "border store."  We drove around a little bit just taking in the sights of South Texas.

I hadn't ever seen an aloe farm.

We hibernated in the evening and stayed home watching movies on TV.

Friday was supposed to be our river cruise, but again, because of the weather (31 degrees and drizzle), we were cancelled.  Instead we went to Santa Rosa, TX for breakfast with Teddy and Becky.  Afterwards it was Bass Pro for a little shopping and walking.

Bass Pro is always entertaining.
We spent a couple hours there and then proceeded to the mall to walk.  It was way too cold outside to get our exercise.  We had lunch in the food court.
I found a barbershop in the mall and decided to risk it. I was waaaayyyy overdue for a trim.  Lela says it turned out okay. My barber, Veronica, said it was perfect!

We returned home and locked ourselves in against the cold.
