Tuesday Evening:
Yesterday (Monday) morning we left the upper 80's weather and tonight we are in 30 degree weather at a campground in Oklahoma, not far from Ft. Smith AR.
We drove through the mountains of Arizona and New Mexico yesterday, reaching a maximum elevation of 7557 feet, according to my GPS. We were over 7000 ft. several times and at over 6000 for all day. I know now that I can take The Silver Star anywhere. If you know the movie "The Long Long Trailer," we were on that same mountain road for several hours. Our tour took us through Showlow, AZ which is a high point on our trip. The truck (No. 11) performed magnificently. It shifted down as it needed to and pulled the steepest of grades. I am very happy with the truck. That Ecoboost engine is a pulling son of a gun!
We overnighted at a park in Santa Rosa NM. After a nice steak dinner at the RV park restaurant, we settled in for the night. When we awoke this morning it was in the upper 40's. We pulled out at 6 AM and quickly were into freezing weather near Tucumcari NM. There was ice on the truck as we drove through a freezing mist for several hours. Then we got into a full blown thunderstorm. It rained the entire day as we traveled beneath the storm west to east all day. The wind was very strong out of the north so we had a broadside wind all day.
We have reached our destination tonight at about 5 PM and set up in the rain. I heated a stir fry for dinner and have the thermostat turned up high to warm the Silver Star. It is supposed to be in the low 30's tonight so we will be using the propane and furnace. We are not used to the cold anymore. Florence, AZ was forcast for 90's this week. I can hear everyone feeling sorry for us...NOT.
We should arrive at home tomorrow in the late afternoon depending on what time we get on the road in the morning.
