I may have figured this out.

This was Drew's first match 1-26-2013

Monday AM  looking for a high temp today of 79.  I see that there is mild weather in St. Louis today and tomorrow.  I hope you don't have to "pay" for the mild temps.

The wrestling match over the weekend was a lot of fun.  It is great that we get to know Drew a little better.  He is almost 18 and will be off to school somewhere else next year.  Drew wrestled two matches Saturday and pinned his opponent in both.  He really looked good in spite of being down with the flu last week.

Lela and I both worked at the tournament as Noel was in charge of organizing it.  Lela worked in the hospitality room (there is no one who is more hospitable than her), and I worked the admission table ($3).  Shelby (Granddaughter) worked in the concession booth.

Afterwards we had dinner (lasagna) at Noel's.  Patrick was working in Huntsville.

Today we are practicing doing "nuthin".  It is not as easy as you might think. It actually seems more tiring than doing "sumthin'".

Wednesday, January 23, 2013

It is Wednesday afternoon and Lela and Noel have gone to Sam's Club to get supplies for the wrestling tournament on Saturday. Drew is only going to wrestle one match as he is recovering from the flu. One match will get his seed for the district tourney coming up. I found out that I am working at the tournament Saturday.  My DW (dear wife) volunteered me.

Gloria told us that she was watching snow accumulating in her neighborhood Tuesday.  We keep track of the weather at home. It looks like you are in the dead of winter.

We were finally on the golf courseTuesday. I played 9 holes walking, and Lela walked with me. Our weather is expected to be above normal for the next week or more. Lela want to try her hand at golf so I think we will get a tee time for 9 holes in a cart and see how it goes.

I have tried to post a couple pictures here today, but blogger is being stubborn. Maybe tomorrow.

Monday Lela spent the day at Noel's doing laundry and I transferred some VHS to digital.  It has really been interesting watching those old movies.  I had no grey hair and no fat.

We had dinner with Noel and Patrick and Drew.

We had a pretty full day yesterday.  Because our bed is a “short queen”, we have had a hard time getting bedding that fits.  Everything we had fits loosely. Camping world is about 55 miles away and is near Bass Pro Shop, so Patrick was all in for Bass Pro.  We were able to get a mattress pad and a set of sheets that are fitted.  Our bed is now much more comfortable.

We picked up a few other odds and ends for the Silver Star.  We are looking at the extra expenditures as tuition in the school of retirement and snowbirding.  Next year we’ll know more about what we are doing.

Drew has been sick with the flu for the past four days so he has missed wrestling in the last two meets.  He starts districts on Friday so he is pointing toward that. He is feeling much better today.

I learned a lot about my furnace last night as when we arrived home it wasn't cooperating.  Through the internet and trial and error, I was able to overcome the problem.

Here is a pic of what we woke to this morning.

The fog was so heavy that it condensed on the pines that overshadow us and sounded like rain.
We got ready and went to The Woodlands Oaks Church of Christ for the 10:30 Worship Service.
Before we got out the sun was shining and the temperature was rising. We dug out some shorts and enjoyed the great weather and now it is football Sunday.

I know, I know, it's not very exciting, but we are still learning how to do "nuthin".

Thursday evening of a beautiful day. Temps got into the upper 60's after an upper 20's start this morning. I'm getting the itch to find a golf course. We had lunch today at Lupe's, Lela's favorite Mexican restaurant.

Yesterday we put out the awning, our name banner in the window, and the "party lights". You know we are quite the party animals.:) Patrick, Noel, Drew and his friend Natalie came over to the Silver Star for some white chili soup.

Happy Birthday (39) to Nephew Chad today!

Not much happening today.
The weather is still uncooperative as it is still cold (42) and rainy.  We chose to do laundry at Noel's house and wait for Drew to get home.  We'll feed him and then head for home.  Noel and Patrick are both working today.

I have digitized several VHS tapes today from the early 90's.  My goal is to get all my tapes on DVD eventually.

Here is Grandson Nic's birthday picture from yesterday.

Sunday AM.  Happy birthday Nic. (Grandson)  We hope you have a fun day!

Returned yesterday afternoon from the wrestling tournament in the Dallas area.  The Woodlands team wrestled well.  Drew had two pins. It is fun for us to try and learn the nuances of the sport.  Lela really get "into it".

Edward and his family came to the arena and then we lunched together at Chilis.  We really enjoyed ourselves and are looking forward to the next meet on Wednesday.

We are going to the Woodlands Oaks Church of Christ this morning at 10:30.  The weather is poor, rain and cold, but we are warm and toasty inside the Silver Star.

Hooray and Hallelulah!
The rain has stopped and the weather is great at 75 degrees and sunny.
Noel and Patrick (Daughter and Son-in-Law) visited this morning and invited us for dinner at their house.
Tomorrow Noel will pick us up at 6AM and we will head to Arlington, TX for Drew's (Grandson) wrestling tournament. We'll return Saturday night..

Rain, rain, go away!
We haven't seen the sun since we left Missouri.  Our forecast is for rain as far as the forecast goes.  My feet are starting to "web up".  There is a lot of flash flooding here.  We are staying close to home as the weather dictates.  We did laundry, that is about as exciting as it gets today.

What a wonderful evening with Edward, Lesley and their family.  Paul and Peggy (Lesley’s parents) hosted us for dinner and the football game.  Although the game was basically over after the first quarter, the dinner and camaraderie was great.  Peggy is an Alabama Alum, so she was really happy.
We left Colleyville about 7:00 AM and arrived in Magnolia Texas about 12:30 after driving in some really heavy rain for nearly the whole trip.  We drove carefully as we had not pulled in any weather before.
It took us about an hour to set up and un winterize Silver Star.  The water system seems to be okay as we haven’t discovered any leaks...yet.

The blog is not cooperating with me to post pictures.  As soon as I figure that out I will post a few photos.

Yesterday we traveled to Oklahoma City and parked at Council Road RV Park on SW 8th street.
H.E. and Lee Ann (Lela’s brother and Sister-in-Law) visited for a couple hours and then we took them to “On The Border” for Mexican fare. Then it was back to The Silver Star for an evening of TV.
Today we are headed to Colleyville, Texas where we will spend the night with Nephew Edward and his family watching the BCS Championship game between Notre Dame and Alabama.
Tomorrow we are off to Magnolia, Texas which will be home for two months.

Today we left for our first snowbird trip.  All went well until we were about to enter Arkansas.  The truck posted a code for the ABS system and a check engine light came on.  We were able to backtrack about 8 miles to a Ford dealer in Bentonville, AR.  Wasted about 1.5 hours there getting checked out.  Apparently we were "fine".  The dealer cleared the codes and we were on our way with no more trouble.  We arrived at our destination later than anticipated but hooked up to cable and electric, fixed dinner hooked up the electric blanket and will soon be cozy and asleep in Van Buren, AR

Happy New Year to all!

At midnight last night we not only slipped into 2013, but also into our retirement and another chapter in our lives.  We pray that God grants us many years in retirement and the good health to further His Kingdom.

We spent yesterday loading The Silver Star for our trip.  It was snowing and cold which reminded us of our wish to spend the "ary" months in warmer climes.
